mixed media - hildinger-reisner series

Some time ago, on my way home from work, I saw a very old upright piano on the street, to be disposed and taken by our local trash removal company. What I felt when I approached it, was a cry for help and survival... The exterior was extremely damaged, probably by water and humidity or affected by the rain from the hurricanes that reached and devastated the homes in our islands  so many times... I went home and came back with all tools I could carry and with my husband's help, I started to disassemble it. What we found were the most exquisite and beautiful wooden and metal parts, some dirty, rusted and broken, but still carrying a faint breath of life... I took home everything I could, leaving behind only the decayed shell. I also found two  old cards from piano tuners, one from G.V. Hildinger (Ypsilanti, Michigan) and one from Robert Reisner (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) which inspired me to create the "Hildinger-Reisner Series", abstract compositions that still carry the faint life of all people that touched that piano, the ones who built the parts, the ones that assembled it, the ones that played the songs, the ones that kept it tuned and alive... They all continue to live through my pieces, still carrying their life and history.
